Durgapur, the "Steel City" of West Bengal, is a planned industrial city located in the Paschim Bardhaman district. Situated on the northern bank of the Damodar River, it's a major center for steel production and a hub for IT industries. Durgapur is now also known as Education city or health city for its recent development in this fields. Durgapur was designed by architects Benjamin Polk and Joseph Allen Stein.
